On March 23rd, 2022, Tolleson’s JAG Works and Teen Council programs were invited to sit in on a presentation by members of the city council about possible accommodations for a future Aquatics Complex. It was hosted at the Parks & Recreation Center, with a general concept of the Complex posted on the wall. However, city leaders wanted to get the opinions from the youth in the community on what they felt was important to include.
Among the teens, it was observed that large slide structures, a snackbar, hot tubs, and a dedicated “teen area” featuring an arcade were the most popular picks. The presentation was also interactive, as attendants took small Post-it marks and stuck them to their favorite features on the wall. Aside from constructed features, a parking lot is also planned to host small markets and food truck gatherings. The Aquatics Complex is planned to be just south of the future Civic Center at the 91st and Van Buren intersection. It is expected to be completed in the Fall of 2023.
