Welcome to the JAG Scholarship & Financial Aid Hub! The Hub is a centralized location for JAG students to find financial aid resources and various scholarship opportunities.  Be sure to review individual scholarship opportunity criteria and deadlines.

2022 ARIZONA BREAKING BARRIERS SCHOLARSHIP

Desert Financial Foundation is committed to strengthening our community by providing educational support and opportunities.

Desert Financial offers scholarships for high school seniors who give back to our community; adults (25 and older) who are pursuing certificates or degrees; and student athletes who have overcome obstacles.

KEN SMITH SCHOLARSHIP
DUE: FEBRUARY 2023

The Ken Smith Scholars program is offering a $10,000 scholarship to four deserving Seniors who will be known as "Smith Scholars" - paid over 4 years!

There are also 41 - $2000 scholarships being awarded this year! 

Students WILL NEED to apply on Headrush. The application period is open from Feb. 1- Feb. 22

ARIZONA COMMUNITY FOUNDATION

The Arizona Community Foundation allows high school seniors and current college students throughout Arizona to apply for more than 100 scholarship awards online in one application.

How to apply in the new ACF scholarship application portal

The Arizona Community Foundation has transitioned to a new system to collect, review, and award scholarships. All of the scholarship opportunities use this system, which means all applicants must create a new account. Here are the steps to create a new account:
  1. Go to https://www.grantinterface.com/Home/Logon?urlkey=azcfscholar
  2. Click Create New Account.

CHICANA LATINA FOUNDATION

The Chicana Latina Foundation's Leadership and Scholarship Program forms the cornerstone of the Chicana Latina Foundation. Each year they award merit-based scholarships valued at $1500 to 40-45 powerful Latina students. Applications open on January 1, 2023.

'GET THERE' SCHOLARSHIP

Get There is a non-profit organization that was founded to provide financial assistance to students who are eligible for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) OR have applied for or received DACA or Temporary Protected Status (TPS) approval or are an Undocumented student.

This scholarship is targeted at students who demonstrate financial need and as a result will require applicants to provide information about their household income.

EDUCATION FORWARD AZ SCHOLARSHIP

Education Forward Arizona is committed to building a college-going culture in Arizona by providing private scholarships and/or mentoring and success services to current Arizona high school seniors with an intent on earning a degree from an accredited Arizona institution. 

Student may be eligible to receive up to:
  • $6,000 per year ($2,000 –$3,000 per semester) for 4 years
  • Intended for students planning to obtain a bachelor’s degree within 4 years; beginning your education at a community college for the first 2 years is an option
  • Mentoring and Success Services

Ed and Verma Pastor Legacy Scholarship

DUE: FEBRUARY 2023

The scholarships are aimed at Latino students majoring in a STEM or a Public Policy field at any public university or college in Arizona.

Eligibility:

  • Arizona resident
  • Undergraduate student with a major leading to a career in Public Service/Public Policy OR a major in a STEM field
  • Financial need as determined by the FAFSA, students must submit a Student Aid Report (SAR)
  • Preference given to first generation, Latino/Latina students

DOUGHERTY FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP

DUE: APRIL 2023

The Dougherty Foundation is a private foundation that awards college scholarships to deserving Arizona students. To apply for any Dougherty Foundation scholarship, please register on the Doughterty Foundation Portal. You will be required to submit a recent and your Student Aid Report from the FAFSA completed this year.

Eligibility Requirements:
· Unmet Financial Need As Determined by Federal Guidelines (FAFSA)
· Attend a partner school (see link below)
· Arizona Resident
· Full-Time Student Status (4-Year university) or 6 Credit Hours (Community College)
· Schools must be in-state

CAROLYN WARNER LEGACY SCHOLARSHIP

Supporting Career and Technical Education Pathways

The Carolyn Warner Legacy Award is endowed by the family and friends of Carolyn Warner. Just as Carolyn embodied the attributes of a servant leader, this award given in her name celebrates young people pursuing career and technical education pathways to support the evolving Arizona economy.

Eligible applicants must be:
• An Arizona Resident
• A person of color
• A current or previous JAG student.
• Pursuing an education program at a Community College or Trade/Technical School in Arizona
• Demonstrate unmet Financial Need As Determined by Federal Guidelines (FAFSA)
• Meet Full-Time Student Status (Min 6 Credit Hours at Community College)

The purpose of this scholarship is to support the continuing education of JAG students who demonstrate a passion and commitment to pursue CTE related career pathways.

BLACK HISTORY MONTH CHALLENGE SCHOLARSHIP

DUE: FEBRUARY 28TH

To understand what’s happening in our world today, we must reflect on what has happened in the past. The Black History Month Challenge provides a fun and interactive way to explore some of the lesser-known stories about the Black experience in the US. We’ll also celebrate the remarkable accomplishments of Black business titans and explore Black contributions to medicine. Let’s do this!

The Black History Month Challenge is designed for high school students and will be available from February 1-28, 2022. The scholarship essay contest is open to all students ages 13-18 who are currently enrolled in high school.

DESERT FINANCIAL FOUNDATION
SCHOLARSHIP FOR HIGHER EDUCATION

DUE: MARCH 1, 2023

RECOGNIZING THOSE WHO HELP OTHERS

High school seniors who volunteer can apply for a Community Service Scholarship. The application period for 2023 Community Service Scholarships is January 9 — March 1, 2023.

Application Requirements:

    • Completed 50+ hours of community service between January 2022 — December 2022.
    • Have a 3.0+ cumulative GPA.
    • Plan to attend an in-state college or university in the fall.
    • Be a Desert Financial member (or related to a member).
    • Show a demonstrated financial need based on Expected Family Contribution (EFC) from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Recipient(s) of the Danny & Rebecca Valenzuela Scholarship will:

  • Be Hispanic students attending college in Arizona

  • Be enrolled for a minimum of 6 credit hours (or equivalent)
  • Achieve a 2.0 GPA or better

THE DR. ORANTÉ JENKINS LEADERSHIP IN EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP

DUE: MARCH 15, 2023

The Dr. Oranté Jenkins Leadership in Education Scholarship was established by Santa Cruz Valley Union High School Principal and Arizona JAG Board member, Dr. Oranté Jenkins and his family in 2012. The Dr. Oranté Jenkins Leadership in Education Scholarship is offering a $500 cash scholarship to a high school senior who has participated in JAG during their school career. This scholarship may be utilized for any undergraduate course of study at any college or university.

Scholarship Eligibility:
In order to be considered, you must be a senior in high school, have participated in JAG for at least one year, and be admitted to a college or university as a full-time student before disbursement.

How To Submit:
You must mail the following contents:

  • A printed completed application - you can download that using the link below;
  • A 500-word essay detailing the impact JAG has had on you as a student leader;
  • Two letters of recommendation from a teacher, JAG Coordinator, or community member.
    in a stamped envelope no later than March 15, 2023.
