Nikola Corporation Presents Career Opportunities to JAG Youth

SEPTEMBER 2021

Their state-of-the art semi-trucks may be the quietest in the world, but Nikola Corporation is making a lot of positive noise in the community of Coolidge, Arizona. The zero-emissions Class 8 battery-electric and hydrogen fuel cell vehicle manufacturer is significantly increasing quality job opportunities to Coolidge residents who are enthusiastic to impart their impact.

"Giving back and connecting with our community is a core value that Nikola celebrates and lives into each day by working outwardly," says Alana Langdon, Sr. Manager of External Affairs and Public Policy. "As a member of JAG's Board of Directors for four years, I have seen how important it is for private sector companies like Nikola to get engaged as a good corporate neighbor with local stakeholders to collaborate on critical issues, including helping to develop a skilled workforce for today and the years to come."

In their premier presentation to Jobs for Arizona’s Graduates, Production Associate, David Daniels and Advanced Manufacturing Training Manager, Jeff Sommers visited Coolidge High School and piqued students’ interest in future employment opportunities. Each presenter shared their respective paths to the company, what they value most about their roles and details about what it takes to work for Nikola.

School administration notes that Coolidge Graduate, Daniels, bridges the community to their new corporate resident. JAG Program Coordinator, Michelle Gonzales, says, “Coolidge High School was glad to see an alumni return in a professional capacity."

As students’ excitement grew, they began to explore ideas with the presenters such as how service works to the novel battery and hydrogen powered trucks and the variety of professionals it takes for production and operation. “It was good for our students to see and hear that Coolidge High School graduates can be successful in the real world in a professional manner,” says Gonzales. More presentations are planned during this academic year.

These types of guest-speaking engagements are one of the key components of the JAG Model because they enrich the career exploration experience for students. Register for our next New Volunteer Orientation to learn more about becoming a guest speaker for JAG youth.
