Meet Paloma: Leading with Confidence and Creativity

Gila Bend High School senior Paloma is using creativity and a willingness to step outside her comfort zone to grow as a leader through the 2026–27 University of Phoenix LEADS.

Each year, Arizona's top JAG student leaders are selected to serve as the University of Phoenix LEADS, representing more than 1,500 JAG students across the state. Throughout the year, they develop leadership skills, serve their peers, represent JAG Arizona at events, and prepare to compete at the National Career Development Conference (NCDC).

For Paloma, a senior in the Gila Bend High School JAG program, leadership is about creating opportunities for others to be heard while continuing to grow herself. As a member of the 2026–27 University of Phoenix LEADS, she's looking forward to building new relationships and gaining the confidence to take on new challenges.

"Being a LEAD means setting positive examples, allowing others to be heard while helping them, and being willing to learn and grow."

Paloma enjoys spending time with her friends and family, listening to music, trying new activities, and expressing her creativity through fashion and personal style. Whether she's working on a new project or simply finding ways to be creative, she enjoys staying busy and dislikes feeling unproductive. She also enjoys discovering new music, although K-pop remains her favorite genre.

Paloma is eager to gain new experiences through opportunities like LEADS. She sees the program as a chance to expand her skills, connect with other student leaders from across Arizona, and prepare herself for future educational and career opportunities.

"During this journey, I expect myself to stay committed, and be willing to stand outside my comfort zone."

That willingness to embrace new experiences and continue growing is exactly what the University of Phoenix LEADS program is designed to encourage. As Paloma represents Gila Bend High School this year, she'll be building the leadership skills and connections that will serve her long after graduation.
