Meet Anais Osegueda: Using Her Voice to Help Others Be Heard

As a member of the 2026–27 University of Phoenix LEADS, Anais has an opportunity to put that outgoing personality to work as a voice for her fellow JAG students.

Each year, Arizona's top JAG student leaders are selected to serve as the University of Phoenix LEADS, representing more than 1,500 JAG students across the state. Throughout the year, they develop leadership skills, represent JAG Arizona at events, attend the National Student Leadership Academy, and prepare to compete at the National Career Development Conference (NCDC).

Anais, a senior at Gila Bend High School, loves talking with people and learning from new experiences. She has learned to appreciate that not everything in life goes according to plan and chooses not to fear mistakes but to see them as opportunities to learn, grow and keep moving forward.

"A mistake made is a lesson learned. I've learned to love the spontaneity of life."

She knows how important it is to feel heard and understood, which is why she makes it a point to actively listen to others. To Anais, being a LEAD means listening, understanding, and advocating for others.

"Being a LEAD means to be a voice, a proud and confident voice for the members and JAG as a whole."

Anais also believes leadership requires service; she wants her fellow JAG students to know they have someone willing to listen to them and help make sure their voices are heard. She sees being a LEAD as a commitment to serving others and being a positive role model for the entire JAG community.

Her love of connecting with people is balanced by knowing when she needs time for herself. Anais enjoys experimenting with makeup and fashion, listening to music, reading, watching TV, and writing short stories. She credits her family, especially her mom, with encouraging her to go after new opportunities. She says her family's support helped give her the courage to join JAG in the first place and they continue to push her to do her best and take chances when opportunities come her way.

"I'm always up for a challenge, and I don't give up easily."

With her willingness to listen and connect with others, she's ready to discover just how much she can accomplish as a University of Phoenix LEAD.

Anais has set a personal goal to raise $2,500 to help fund her journey to the National Student Leadership Academy (NSLA) in Washington, D.C. At NSLA, she will join JAG student leaders from across the country for an experience focused on leadership, career development, and preparing for the opportunities ahead.
