During the summer break, a few JAG Alumni stepped out into their community to support back to school giveaway events. Along with some JAG staff members, the alumni supported an engaging booth at the Desert Sky Mall annual Back-to-School event. The event drew in nearly 1,200 parents and students. The JAG booth included a spin the wheel and bean bag toss for student to participate in to win JAG swag and school supplies.
A week later, the City of Tolleson hosted their Back Pack Giveaway event - and the alumni showed up in full force to support the event. Students that attended the event each received a backpack and supplies and visited the resource booths, including JAG’s. Nearly 350 parents and students attended the event.
At both events, the JAG table represented the following JAG programs: Tolleson JAG Works, Tolleson Union High School District and the Tolleson Elementary School District JAG programs. They got to spin the wheel to receive school supplies and learned about JAG in their school and the community. The alumni interacted with parents, elementary age students and high school students.
At community events, the JAG table serves as an awareness campaign for JAG programs within their school or community. Students and parents receive flyers on how to prepare their student for the next school year, as well as, the program flyers with online sign up form via a QR code and the local Coordinator's information. Parents and students are very interested in JAG on their school campus with many requesting JAG to come to a school near them.
Jobs for Arizona’s Graduates focuses on developing career pathways for students, emphasizing post-secondary education, employment readiness and life-skills training.
