Kenneth M. Smith Scholarships

Ken Smith and Graciela Garcia Candia
The Kenneth M. Smith Scholarship Fund and the Smith Scholars Program were established by the JAG Board to recognize the extraordinary leadership and service of the President and Chief Executive Officer of JAG, Inc., Kenneth M. Smith. Since 2009, the Kenneth M. Smith Scholarship Fund has awarded 269 scholarships for a total of $341,000 for participants enrolled in Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG). Contributions to the KMS Scholarship Fund has come from JAG Board members and partnering corporations who invest in the educational development of students in JAG. 

Scholarships are awarded to JAG high school seniors in pursuit of a postsecondary degree or certificate, including: a public or private two-year community college, technical college, public or private four-year college/university, or an apprenticeship or trade school. Scholarships are also awarded to previous Smith Scholars who apply and are accepted for a follow-up scholarship to continue pursuit of a postsecondary degree or certificate.

Dougherty Foundation Scholarships

The Dougherty Foundation is a private foundation that awards college scholarships to deserving Arizona students. To apply for any Dougherty Foundation scholarship, please register on the Dougherty Foundation Portal. You will be required to submit a recent and your Student Aid Report from the FAFSA completed this year.

To apply for the Candia and Warner scholarships, students must complete the Dougherty application first and note they are part of JAG.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Unmet Financial Need As Determined by Federal Guidelines (FAFSA)
  • Attend a partner school (see link below) 
  • Schools must be in-state
  • Arizona Resident
  • Full-Time Student Status (4-Year university) or 6 Credit Hours (Community College)
  • Additional criteria may be required by individual scholarships
Carolyn Warner Legacy Award
Endowed by the Family and Friends of Carolyn Warner
Founder of Jobs for Arizona’s Graduates (JAG), Carolyn Warner established a great legacy of supporting the career and education goals of youth, particularly those pursuing technical education and certificate pathways.
Deadline:  March 17, 2024
Students must register and complete the Dougherty Application to apply for this scholarship. 

Dougherty Foundation
Graciela Garcia Candia Philanthropy Scholarship
Funded by the Candia Family
This scholarship award is designed to support a student who demonstrates that same spirit of philanthropy and plans to continue to do so through college and beyond.
Deadline:  March 17, 2024
Students must register and complete the Dougherty Application to apply for this scholarship.

in 2012.

This helpful tutorial explores the ACF scholarship process to help you prepare and apply.
The Arizona Community Foundation allows high school seniors and current college students throughout Arizona to apply for more than 100 scholarship awards online in one application.
How to apply in the new ACF scholarship application portal

The Arizona Community Foundation has transitioned to a new system to collect, review, and award scholarships. All of the scholarship opportunities use this system, which means all applicants must create a new account.
